We Have to Preserve Our Mental Health or Risk Losing It In This Post COVID-19 Era of Stress and Anxiety.
The world has has literally stood still in the face of this pandemic. The great countries have been hit the hardest, leaving the small countries to fend for themselves.
One thing is more certain than ever, we are all connected and what happens in one person’s life affects another. We need to think of all areas and aspect of our lives as important and need to be cared for.
I started working on the Wellness Competency Mindset teaching decades ago when I was experiencing trauma in several areas of my own life. Since then, I have had the privilege of teaching it to thousands of employees and leaders in government, private sector, post-secondary and not-for-profit organizations. I have also been able to teach this concept to practitioners and coaches around the globe, equipping them to teach and coach it with their network and clients.
The teaching has a foundation on the Wellness Improvement System® (WIS) below.

The teaching has been instrumental in helping leaders develop psychologically safe workplaces that allow employees to feel safe at work. It has served as a new way to help people strive for holistic wellness and to preserve their mental health. It also informs us that how well we are in one area of life does influence our wellness in other life areas.
The Wellness Competency Mindset Teaching provides a roadmap with a dynamic system of wellness attainable via their wellness conversation mindset shift and competency practice. The key features of the wellness competency mindset framework are as follows:
It is founded on a multi-dimensional Wellness Improvement System® (WIS) that provides clients with a roadmap for continuous wellness improvement.
It provides a wellness conversation framework that reframes one’s thinking by exposing and shifting the beliefs assumptions and thoughts that make up their mental attitude to choose wellness.
- It emphasizes the importance of wellness competencies to serve as a foundation for shifting their thinking and worldview to one that regards wellness as a process of continual improvement.
The Wellness Competency Mindset Teachingâ„¢ reminds us that our lives are interconnected and interdependent. It allows us to see that it is futile to address our ailments and challenges as singular issues outside the whole.
It also encourages a view of our bodies and lives as energetically connected through meaning purpose and energy.
While there is no magic pill to cure mental illness, we know that it is particularly important to promote and preserve mental health while we reduce and delay mental illness episodes. Its whole system teaching has been instrumental in helping clients to experience longer healthy episodes and fewer relapses by following the integrated system framework.
