14 Mar High Performers in the Workplace
What if your Top Performer Earns a Million Dollars More than their Colleagues?
Would you want to keep that employee at all costs? What if they’re your top sales person, grossing millions of dollars in annual sales? What if they’re the best pilot for long haul flights, making back to back trips within the regulated scope of rest? What if they’re your most reliable employee, comes in when you’re in a jam and eager to work overtime?
The truth is that most supervisors or leaders would want to hold unto high performers no matter how difficult they become to manage. Now you don’t have to do so. Interpersonal skills are essential for good self-esteem, so it really is a good thing to help those employees improve their behavior.
With interpersonal skills coaching, people do not have to make allowances or overlook behavior outside their scope to deal with. They can now hire a coach to work with their high performers and sit back and enjoy the transformation. Some comments I hear from our clients’ organizations are, “Thank you”, “Is this for real?”, “I can’t believe this change!”, “When do we expect to get our Bill back?”
The reality is that it takes a lot of negative energy to be mean, nasty and ugly to those you spend your day with and when given the right help, support, skill development and encouragement, most people are able to make a 360-degree change into their best self. Remember, high performers are brilliant. They already have the capacity to deliver at a high level for the skills they have. They are quickly able to learn new interpersonal skills and deliver them with impact. I think this is why I love working with them. When committed to improving themselves and their working relationships, they excel.
You don’t have to get rid of high performers, even when their behavior is harassing to co-workers. We can help! Call me to discuss strategies to turn your high performers into all around great employees!
