03 Dec Coaching Accountability
Accountability is one of the primary drivers to coaching success. It leads to faster results than when one is left to their own devices. Accountability can be described as the…..
Accountability can be described as the act of taking responsibility and being answerable to someone other than oneself. It is the willingness to answer or accept that one will need to be answerable for their actions or inactions. It leads to one being wise, strategic, reasonable in their decisions and compelled to give account of their actions. Coaching is to drive action and accountability and ensure that these actions are smart and reasonable. It begs the question, why do you believe this will be the best course of action? It is the glue that holds coaching actions to logic and reason, making one discerning, assertive and to think critically about their course of action.
The role of being the accountability partner makes the coach an effective examiner of proposed actions. The coach’s job is to be the client’s third eye, letting them view their goals impartially and objectively for growth and development. Coaching is a process purely designed for one’s future improvement and very little time is spent on past mistakes. Thus, the coach makes room for the client to see a clear view to where they want to go and how they want to get there.
Accountability becomes a tool for the coach in which to help the client measure, acknowledge and celebrate the milestones toward their desired outcome. This week, our course on coaching accountability will focus on steps and strategies for effective and successful accountability in coaching.
